Yes, I don't watch much anime anymore, especially in recent years. It just doesn't interest me much anymore. I do however, make exceptions for especially interersting and different shows. Azumanga Daioh was one. The one I recently watched was a little gem called Mezzo.
If you're an anime buff you'd know that this little series basically picks up where the 2 part OVA, Mezzo Forte left us off. Mezzo Forte was written/animated/directed by Yasuomi Umetsu and it was extremely smooth, extremely cool, extremely violent and also had a few extremely explicit sex scenes (in the uncut versions). The new Mezzo series is very much like a second helping of the same thing, only that it's not quite as smooth in some areas, not quite as violent, and there're no sex scenes (of course) and heck, even the fan service is mild.
What I like about the show is how crazy it is. Sure, it's not perfect. Most of the plots feel kinda rushed, and to some, the fact that some of them make no sense (helping an Alien to save the world for instance), make no sense could prove to be a head scratcher for some. To me however, anything that makes as little sense as possible gets an A in my book.
Some might also gripe about the exclusion of the sexual stuff. While there some references and a 'near miss' rape scene, none of the stuff here is anywhere near the level of Mezzo Forte's. Frankly, I could do without the sex scenes like the ones in Mezzo Forte, as I felt they didn't mesh well with the whole show.
Overall this was a fun, crazy, action packed and very quirky show. Great if you liked the OVA. Heck, I'd recommend you see the OVA first before watching Mezzo. I give this 8/10 momos.
